about
Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m a journalist and graduate student and at American University’s School of Communication. My prospective graduation is in July, 2010.
In the past two years, I’ve interned for a magazine, Log Home Design, a newspaper, The Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star, and even a literary journal, Peeks and Valleys. I graduated summa cum laude in May, 2009 from The University of Mary Washington with honors in English. Since then, I have spent my time constantly looking for more experiences to write and record and learning new ways to do so. Right now, I am especially interested in new media and using computer programs like Dreamweaver, Flash, and Adobe Illustrator to aid my reporting.
My hobbies make up a huge part of who I am. A self proclaimed nerd, I am always immersed in and fascinated with sub and alternative popular culture. I frequent anime and videogame conventions along the East Coast, including Katsucon, Otakon, and Anime USA. I am deeply interested in documenting the “fan experience.”
Though originally from Northern Virginia, I’ve recently transplanted to the DC metropolitan area. I love reporting in my new home.
